Tuesday, September 14, 2010: Grounds and arms collection at Heidecksburg

Now we're going to check out...

The arms collection „Schwarzburgian Armoury“

From arms depot to princely show collection

Mentioned in documents already in 1453, the arms collection developed from an arms depot of the Schwarzburgian counts to a famous show collection of the princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. 4000 exhibits have been preserved until today. The most beautiful pieces are displayed at a permanent exhibition in the north wing of Heidecksburg palace. The exhibition shows both the development of the Schwarzburgian army and outstanding pieces of European weaponry art from the 15th to the 19th century. Among them are:
  • swords of the 15th and 16th century
  • arquebuses of the 16th century
  • pikemen harnesses from the time of the Thirty Years' War
  • Italian dress swords of princely property
  • artfully decorated hunting rifles and crossbows from the 16th to the 18th century

Anja, Kerstin, and Wolfgang

We're at the restaurant at Hedecksburg, and Anja said she sure looks mad.  Well, we say she had reason to be because for whatever reason, no one seemed ready to serve us.  We ended up moving on.

Kerstin and Anja.  In spite of how Anja thinks she looks, aren't the colors great?  Kerstin and Anja appear to have dressed for the room!

Wolfgang and Kerstin

John, Anja, and Kerstin head into the tunnel.  I'm following!  We're walking down into Rudolstadt to find a place for lunch.
